Meet Lisa – founder of Empowered Online and your guide to building a business that truly works with your life, not against it. Lisa’s story starts with a snowboard, a diagnosis, and a decision that changed everything.
It was New Year’s Eve when a snowboarding accident left Lisa with a broken wrist, requiring surgery and a metal plate. But this wasn’t just any ordinary recovery period. Back in 2017, what seemed like a simple case of glandular fever had turned Lisa’s world upside down, leading to her ME/CFS diagnosis that was already reshaping how she thought about work and life.
As she recovered from surgery in January 2019, Lisa made a pivotal decision. She used those weeks of recovery to start freelancing from her laptop. She started over completely, leaving her career in education to build something entirely new. That “something” became Empowered Online, born from necessity and fuelled by determination. Sometimes life’s unexpected detours lead us exactly where we need to be.
Living with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia in Hertfordshire with her partner Chris and their three cats (yes, three!) – Freddie, Kiki, and Leo – Lisa understands firsthand the unique challenges of running a business when your energy isn’t unlimited. She’s learned that success isn’t about working harder – it’s about working smarter, with systems that support you rather than drain you.
